Take Care of Your Temple!
Looking back through the years and still today, when the journey is difficult, I always turn to Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”. As someone who suffered, yet recovered, from an Eating Disorder most of my adolescent and adult life, I never understood what it meant to “take care of my temple”. Honestly, I felt very uncomfortable in my own skin and was abusive to my body. When you have a distorted body image, you tend to make choices that you might not otherwise make, if you truly loved and took care of yourself. I have been down the road less traveled and it is a painful one. I hope to spare others of that same journey, if at all possible. My goal is to share how we can choose the road to wellness, while loving and respecting ourselves and our bodies, through the process.
Paul understood that our earthly bodies are decaying. Nevertheless, that awareness didn't cause him to neglect his body, he recognized that our body was the temple. 1 Corinthians 10:31 states “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” When reading that scripture, it is like the message is written on the wall for us to “take care of our temple”.
